Ingredients

  • 6 medium Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Egg wash (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1. Mix flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  2. 2. Form into two disks, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least one hour.
  3. 3. Toss sliced apples with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg while dough chills.
  4. 4. Roll out one disk to fit your pie dish. Fill with apple mixture.
  5. 5. Roll out the second disk to cover the pie; vent or create a lattice design as desired.
  6. 6. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake for 15 minutes; reduce to 350°F (175°C) for an additional 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
